Living Legacies

  • Magnolia Plantation and Gardens 3550 Ashley River Road Charleston, SC, 29414 United States (map)

Join us for Living Legacies, a powerful and immersive event celebrating the resilience, ingenuity, and lasting contributions of African Americans whose stories are deeply interwoven with our shared history. This inspiring event is included with adult Garden Admission, and children 17 and under can attend for free. Pre-purchase tickets here.

Guided by living historians and artists from the renowned Slave Dwelling Project, you’ll step back in time to explore and honor the lives and legacies that shaped our community. Experience the rich aromas of live cooking demonstrations that showcase traditional recipes, witness compelling historical reenactments that bring untold stories to life, and try your hand at brick-laying as a tribute to the craftsmanship that built this land.

Through these engaging activities and storytelling, you’ll reflect on the courage and creativity of generations past and consider the lessons we might gain from those generations as we strive towards a more just future.

This special event is made possible through a partnership with Drayton Hall, offering a day rich with history and learning. As part of this collaboration, your ticket includes your admission to Magnolia and reciprocal admission to Drayton Hall on the same day, allowing you to continue your journey through time.
